Divided Road Information

Prior to 2003, our existing divided road network had a length of 6,101 km, connecting only 6 counties. However, with the construction of 22,895 km of roads since 2003, our total divided road network has reached 28,996 km, providing divided road connections between 77 counties.

The goal is to reach a divided road length of 29,392 km by the end of 2023.

Taking into account the accident data for the year 2021, a remarkable 80% reduction in traffic-related fatalities (based on on-site deaths) has been achieved.

Divided roads generate significant economic benefits, with an annual total of £100.755 billion saved in time and £45.218 billion saved in fuel costs. Additionally, they contribute to a reduction of 4.68 million tons of emissions.

Despite comprising only 42% of our overall road network, divided highways efficiently serve approximately 83% of all vehicle-kilometres travelled across the country.
