“We have two big pieces of news for Ümraniye"
Speaking at the ceremony Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu remarked that they had two big pieces of news for Ümraniye, noting that the first of these is the underpass and square improvement project to be carried out on the TEM Motorway Altunizade-Ümraniye Connection Road.
Recalling that the Training and Research Hospital, the Maternity and Children's Hospital, 29 May University, the Ümraniye Grand Mosque, which is currently under construction, and six neighborhoods in the area are connected by an overpass bridge opened to traffic in 1987, Uraloğlu stated that the existing structure has become inadequate with development of service areas in the district and causes congestion for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Uraloğlu stated that once vehicular traffic is diverted to the underpass, the surface level will be allocated to pedestrians and green space, adding that an additional 9.5 decares of green space will be provided in the area. Uraloğlu stated that a total of 50 decares of green space will be created by integrating Ümraniye Municipality Square with the Courtyard Of Ümraniye Grand Mosque, adding that the area will feature bicycle paths, charging and parking stations, as well as food and beverage facilities.
Minister Uraloğlu stated that the proposed arrangement will provide easy and barrier-free access for everyone in daily use, adding that it will be designed to allow vehicle access in the event of disasters and emergencies. Uraloğlu stressed that the Project would both solve the traffic problem and create a new living space.
Trabzon Millet Bahçesi Junction Opened to Traffic
Uraloğlu indicated that the second investment is the Trabzon Millet Bahçesi Junction that was opened to traffic on the TEM connection road.
Uraloğlu noted that the Trabzon Millet Bahçesi is an important living space featuring walking, running, bicycle lanes, sport and children's playgrounds, picnic areas and recreational facilities, recalled that, as there are no direct entry or exit points to the area from the Üsküdar and Şile directions, access is currently provided via the existing road network in Tepeüstü.
Noted that increased transportation demand, especially during the summer months, causes traffic congestion in the region. To alleviate this congestion, he stated that a 3,750 meter-long interchange branch, constructed to bituminous hot-mix asphalt pavement standards, has been added to the Tranbzon Millet Bahçesi Junction, which currently serves as a grade-separated interchange.

“We are strengthening Ümraniye's transportation infrastructure"
Director General of Highways Ahmet Gülşen stated in his speech at the ceremony that opening the Trabzon Millet Bahçesi Interchange to traffic and commencing construction of the TEM Ümraniye Interchange Connection Road Underpass Project are important steps toward strengthening Ümraniye's transportation infrastructure.
Gülşen stated that the Trabzon Millet Bahçesi has increased transportation activity in the area and emphasized the importance of providing high-standart access to the site. He noted that interchange branches had been added to the existing structure, which currently serves as an underpass. Gülşen added that this arrangement provides direct access to Trabzon Millet Bahçesi from all directions while also reducing the traffic load at the Ümraniye Junction.
Gülşen also noted that the underpass project, which was initiated to make vehicle and pedestrian traffic on the route providing access to the TEM Ümraniye Interchange safer and more orderly, is an important transportation investment, stating that a 230-meter section of the connection road will be routed through the underpass.
Stating that, upon completion of the project, the entire upper section of the underpass will be opened to pedestrian use, Gülşen said that the project will both ensure the continuity of transportation and improve traffic flow, while also providing Ümraniye with a safer, more livable public space where pedestrians can breathe and enjoy greater comfort.
