CONSTRUCTION WORK CONTINUES ON THE SARIYER-KILYOS TUNNEL PROJECT
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu visited the construction site of the Sarıyer-Kilyos Tunnel. After receiving information from the officials Uraloğlu made statements to the press after his visit.
“Travel time will decrease from 35 minutes to 5 minutes"
Stating that the Sarıyer-Kilyos Tunnel will start from the northern points of Istanbul and extend to Beşiktaş, Uraloğlu underlined that 7 kilometers of the approximately 8,200-meter route will be tunnelled.
The Minister mentioned that the project will include a twin-tube tunnel, a total of four lanes (2x2), a 1,200-meter viaduct, and connecting roads. He highlighted that the travel time will significantly reduce from 35 minutes to 5 minutes. Uraloğlu continued, "We will connect this project from Kilyos to the Northern Marmara Motorway. This will facilitate transport for residents of all localities from the western direction, including to the airport through places like Zekeriyaköy and Uskumruköy."
“Our goal is to open the tunnel for service by the end of 2026"
Uraloğlu said that the project will also provide significant savings in fuel oil, adding that approximately 30 percent of the 7,000-meter tunnel, where work continues 24/7, has been completed and that their goal is to put the tunnel into service towards the end of 2026.
